best subwoofers i've ever owned
Posted by Brendan on 27th Mar 2015
I owned a pair of these a couple years ago and eventually had to get rid of them. I wanted to run a pair of 15s again and I had to go with the SA 15s. They still amaze me. They hit the lows flawlessly and even perform on the higher end. I have them in a sealed box because I don't have room for a ported box but they are still extremely loud and can be heard and felt from a good distance. I'm giving 1000 watts to each of them and they sound amazing. They blow my old alpine type rs away. Great for SPL and SQ.
Amateurs Don't Know How To Install
Posted by Car Audio Tech on 4th Mar 2015
I see a couple people on here saying the SAs are garbage or can't handle power etc etc. Apparently they don't know how to build a box and tube it to the right hz. It's more to installing a subwoofer than just slapping it in a box and throwing an amp on it. You can't expect it to perform optimally under those conditions. Do some research, if you can't install it right get someone else to do it. You are bashing an excellent product that you didn't do your due diligence on for it to function properly.
I have 1 SA 15 dual 2 ohm that I replaced a kicker cvr 15 dual 2 ohm. The SA slams ridiculously. I am getting roof flex and I am wired @ 1 ohm. Box is 5.4 cubes tuned to 32 hz. I will be getting a nightshade next.

don't bash sundown

To the kid who is bashing the Sa's. I'll have you know I have 1 sa 15 d2 in a 5.1 cubic foot box tuned to 36 hertz. On a hifonics brutus 1600 at 1 ohm. I have embarrassed cvrs, solo barics, cvxs, and even solo xs, and did I mention my single 15 does 148.2 on the dash sealed up sundown is on a much higher level than kicker will ever be. Sundown has the trophies to prove it bud.

I currently own 8 sa 15 d2's 6 in a 1986 chevy blazer with a 4th order and the 2 other's in a 2002 Mitsubishi eclipse walled 4th order these subs are amazing and clean current have a hifonic's 2400d in the eclipse at 1ohm and the subs love every watt of power!! currently no amp in the chevy i had no problem with ssa in anyway shipping was fast and cant beat the price of these beasts! the chevy blazer will soon have a sundown 5000d and the eclipse with a sundown 3500d v.2
You got to be kidding me

I recently purchased 2 sa 15 dual 2. They are replacing kicker cvr 07 154. The box is the same and amp which is a kicker zr1000 tuned for deep bass. The gain on amp is quarter turn back from half and these subs are garbage compared to kicker. My car was micked at 147 dbs wit the kickers. These subs can't take a pounding like u guys are saying in these blogs. To make a long story short sundown entry-level subs are no way in the same league as kicker comps.
900 watts rms

this sub is good and at a affordabale price. i own 2 of these and 900 watts rms on each sub. they can handle the beating
Posted by John on 26th Jan 2013
This sub is decent and can handle power but tends to sound peaky with a lot of notes at 600 to 1000 rms there is a lot better options out there i just purchased 2 AUDIOBAHN AW1200J subs after owning one of these and I can say in my opinion the audiobahns destroy one these and then some and these subs are overrated yea they handle 1000 rms but sound like shit doing it.

feeding it a 1000 rms and slams no prob very rarely gets hot even overpowering it and picks up lots of notes especially for a 15 picks up notes most 15s wouldnt

Bought one of the sa dual 4 ohm 15 to replace 2 ma audio hk 12's i had and it puts to shame in loudness and sound quality. Rated at 600rms im currently feeding it 1000 rms out preforms two subs supposedly rated at 1500 rms each. Also cost the same price per sub give or take a few dollars depending where you get them and weighs about a half the weight.

I love the sound quality from sundown. One of my best friends has 8 sundown 12's and he convinced me to convert to sundown and i am very thankful. Im giving one sa-15 atleast 3000 watts and its asking for more. Im getting my other sa in a couple of days. I appreciate all the help from Sound solutions audio I will be buying from here again very soon. I also own 2 car and truck clubs and we will be using ssa from now on. Thanks

Worth every penny

This sa 15 is bad to the bone blows away any pair of 12's I've ever had & its not even broke in yet. Its louder & produces clean low ass bass. A pair of Sony, kicker cvr, orion xtrs,or Jl w3 12's have no chance.

I have one of these in a POS ply wood box 3cubic feet tuned some where around 32 hertz and it pounds! I've seen people say that sundown subs dont handle lows well, but i don't think any of those people have ever herd a sundown product. Even in my cruddy box this subs destroys the lows. Its currently getting about 1000watts rms off a 1700 watt brutus amp and it has no problems handling almost double its rms. Great product end of story.... cant wait for a X line to come out!

The Sundown SA series has been our most popular product line since the introduction of the SA-12 in 2009. It was the result of over a year of testing and prototyping until all of our goals and expectations were blown away. The SA series has continually evolved over the years thanks to extensive testing and feedback from our SPL competition Team and our customers but still stays true to its legendary design heritage. It has never failed to prove itself year-in and year-out in every application ranging from daily musical builds to all-out SPL competition vehicles.
When designing the SA series we started out with an FEA optimized motor & coil design capable of 19mm of one-way Klippel verified excursion and just over 33mm of x-mech. This motor & coil setup was then mated up to an extremely robust double-layer Nomex spider with fully tied-on “XL” tinsel leads (84-Strands of Conductor), an SPL competition grade paper cone, and a strong foam surround. The motor also features a large magnet ID shorting ring (faraday ring) to reduce distortion causes by inductance & inductance variation over stroke.
We realized that this still was not enough to meet our goal of delivering the best driver on market in this price range to our customers. To that end we designed a highly optimized voice coil cooling system that has since found its way into almost every other subwoofer we make to this day. This system allows our 2.5" coil to match and exceed the thermal performance of many competing 3" coil drivers on the market without requiring the usage of a much heavier voice coil than required for the design. The result is that the SA features the ideal mix of mass & stiffness to give you the best performance in nearly every type of enclosure. All of this hard work and engineering has led to the incredible reputation now enjoyed by the SA series worldwide. We are very proud of what these woofers are capable of and we believe that they are one of the best woofers on the market today hands down for the money.
