Clear allA generic prefab "12 inch box" is tuned for nothing in particular. It has a cutout that fits a 12 and a volume that is a compromise across every 12 inch driver ever made. Basshead Supply does the opposite: each enclosure is designed around one subwoofer's published parameters, so the net internal volume, port area and tuning frequency are what that driver wants. A Sundown Audio X-12 v3 and a Sundown SA-12 v3 both fit a 12 inch cutout, and they get different boxes here. That is why the listings are named by the subwoofer, not by the cutout.
The result is bass that is louder, cleaner and safer for the woofer: the port keeps cone excursion in check near tuning, the volume lets the motor work in the range it was built for, and the box does not unload the sub below the frequencies the music actually contains.
Sundown Audio is the deepest section, with boxes for the SA, SAV, U, X and Z series in single, dual and quad configurations. DC Audio, Resilient Sounds, American Bass, Trinity Audio, JL Audio and Kicker each have their own list.
If your subwoofer is not listed, or you are between two configurations, send us the model and the space you have. We sell these boxes because we run them ourselves, and matching a driver to an enclosure is the question we answer most.
Enclosures are large freight items and are excluded from the free-shipping offer on orders over $199; shipping is calculated at checkout from the box size and your address. Because each box is built for one subwoofer, allow for build time on the less common models; the listing or our team can give a current estimate.
Physically, often yes, since the cutout is a standard 12 inch hole. Acoustically it depends on how close the two drivers' parameters are. A box designed for a high-excursion SPL woofer is usually too large and tuned too low for a lighter daily sub. Tell us the sub you actually have and we will say whether it is a match or point you at the right listing.
Almost every Basshead Supply enclosure is ported. A ported box plays louder for the same power and keeps the woofer under control near its tuning frequency, which is what most car audio subwoofers are designed for. Sealed boxes trade output for a smaller footprint and are listed separately under universal sealed sub boxes.
In a trunk, subs and port toward the rear of the car (facing the trunk lid or tailgate) is the usual starting point. In an SUV or hatchback try subs up and port back, or both back. Every vehicle is different, so test two orientations before you screw anything down.
Each listing describes exactly what is included. Plan on adding speaker wire for the amplifier-to-box run from the wire and cable section if you need it.
No. Enclosures are excluded from the free-shipping offer because of their size and weight. The exact freight cost shows at checkout before you pay.
